Default Front tires?

I am going to plow snow with my 109 when the winter comes around and i want some different front tires. Right now its got turf tires since thats what it had when i bought it. Would turf tires be acceptable for fronts when plowing snow? What would be best for snow, dirt, bla bla bla... etc.. Mainly snow though. I would like to stay away from buying new rims if possible. Right now its got 16x6.5-8 sized tires. Thanks

I would recommend either tri-ribs or ag tires. I have both on my cubs, though I prefer the narrow rims (4's) for the front of my cubs, and I prefer the ags for snow/dirt more than the tri ribs. The turfs will still work though if you want to save some $$, unless they are the floatation (sp?) ones---those are worthless IMO.

I would love to have narrow rims but right now id like to save a couple bucks by keeping the wide rims. I have no idea if my turf tires are flotation tires or not. I just found some "V61" tires on a different forum. Those look like they would be PERFECT but the company seems to be overseas...... Anybody heard or used those tires?

Lots of guys here use those tires and really like the performance they get from them. I would not deal with an overseas company. Miller Tire is a reputable company to deal with.

I agree with Cub Cadet 123, skinny tires are the way to go.

I really like the tri ribs but I have no experience with ag tires on the front.

A lot of the other guys say really good things about the V61's, I have no experience with those either.

For what it's worth, With the difference in price of tires you may be able to find some narrow tri ribs and narrow wheels for about the same money as the V61s, without looking them up I'm not sure of the price on V61s.

You might try an add in the wanted section.

V61's are Vredestine tires from Holland. Excellent tire and they look and perform awesome. I like that tire, however, they are $48 each plus shipping from Miller tire. Like Sam stated, you may be able to find narrow rims and 4.00/4.80-8 tri-ribs for about the same money or possibly even less.

Is there any specific offset the rims need since they are narrower?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
