Default 38" deck complaint???

On my old 1977 CC 1000 I have the 3 blade 38" mowing deck. This deck uses a large center blade, and 2 small blades on either side of the main blade. When cutting, the discharge chute gets clogged often, as if the small blade does not do a very good job of "clearing" the chute. Is this a common issue with this deck? My last tractor was a JD 216 with a 47" deck, and this was not a problem on it. Thanks!!

Yep, they don't like long grass or wet grass.

Thanks for the reply. I am new to Cub Cadet, and remember the previous owner telling me of different pulley sizes for the deck. From what I understand, these decks should have the 3 blades spinning at progressively higher RPM's to aid in discharge. Are the 48" decks any better??
Thanks. My tractor is an old 1977 CC 1000.

Someone here posted about a smaller pulley on the spindle on the discharge end to help but I don't remember who it was. Looking at the parts list it looks like the 2 small blades both have the same size pulleys. I know the 38" I had on my 1210 had the same size on both sides. I'm sure one of the other guys will come along with a suggestion or 2.

I have an 800 with the 38a deck. I don't have an issue with clogging now, but I did previously.

Couple of things...discharge blade was duller than the others, and my deck was not level side-to-side...discharge side was lower. Once I fixed those things, no more problem. Also, make sure that the moveable shield over the exit chute isn't sitting too low. That is a rare issue, but it does happen.

Thanks. My tractor is an old 1977 CC 1000.

I've used a 48" on a 125 and a 147 and they are the best deck to mow with IMO. I like the way they cut and they way they discharge just fine, semi wet and tall grass. I don't TRY to cut wet grass but sometimes it happens.

I've never had problems with either deck. (I particularly love the way the 48" deck discharges, and mow exclusively with that deck now.)
But, Cubby guy has a few good things to check. I would definately start there.

I have had problems with grass sticking at several areas under my 54 inch mower. This spring I cleaned, I mean really cleaned the whole deck and used a graphite based paint on the whole underside of the deck. Although this did not totally clear the problem it did lessen it about 80% and it does not stick and clump grass like it did before. I got the paint in a rattle can at Tractor supply.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
