Default My New to me 149


This is my 149...rough around the edges but all intact. I have a few questions that maybe with all the knowledge on here can get me pointed in the right direction.

#1 I need to get a new air filter element, some research from the links here show the part# IH-385168-R2. Can these be purchased like at NAPA or another parts place or do I have to get from a CUB dealer?

#2 Last night after putting in a new battery I fired the ol girl up and I have to keep the choke out a bit to keep it running semi-smooth. A lot of this could be contributed to the fact the gas maybe old, carb needs a good cleaning and the like; however, while running it around and I come to a stop, the tractor wants to keep moving forward. It is like after I depress the pedal the Hydro lever doesn't come back to the neutral position. Again I don't know how long she has sat around, could this be due to the fact the linkages are gummed up or do I need to be looking deeper?

#3 I noticed the hydraulic lift on the deck is leaking off a bit, the deck keeps dropping down. Again age and I don't know how long she has been setting.

Any help would be appreciated!

looks good you can buy air cleaner at other place thin A cub dealer. You can Adjust neutral

You can get an air filter at patton acres, see the link at the top of this page. Print the service manual from this forum, it will tell you how to adjust the brake and hydro to get neutral with the pedal.

Already got the manual...just have to digest it all...any thought on the hydraulics leaking off? I would say old seals maybe dried out from setting around.

Congrats on the 149! I LOVE MINE. Excellent machines!

Do as others have already said but I highly recommend you get a Cub Cadet branded HYDRO OIL filter as many automotive filters fit but are not correct. Changing the hydro oil (generic or name brand as long as it says HyTran... your choice. We're about 50/50 divided on that topic here and its been talked to death). Obviously the best time to do that is when you fix your hydro leak. Hydro leaks are very common. I'd say the most common areas (in my limited experience) are between the pump and axle housing, the suction tube, the relieve buttons on the top of the valves, and the rear cover. That is unless you can actually see your lift cylinder or a hose leaking. Pressure wash it, coat it with baby powered after its dry, and wait for the leaks to show on the powder.

Oh... I like to run a pre-filter on the air cleaner too. I'm sure those are available aftermarket as well.

It has been setting in the shed for a couple of days now and I see no signs of leaks any place. I agree changing out the oil and filter is probably a good idea especially not knowing how long it has been setting, but that is a weekend project. I think a thourough inspection first to see if the obvious is there will be a good point to start from.
