Default Hello from Alabama

I am new to Cub Cadet's and this Forum. I have the opportunity to buy a model 86 Cub Cadet and I hope to get the answers I need to make an informed decision/purchase after looking through some of the past threads. I have attached a picture of the tractor that I am considering.

I am from South Alabama, Robertsdale. This tractor has been in a barn for almost 30 years the owner said. I wish it had a mower deck.

Welcome to the OCC. I am also from Bama and have a 86. Solid little tractors. Looks like you have the mule drive on tractor. Should be able to pick up a deck for it.

Pretty good garden tractor! Weird, but The 86 I'm getting this Saturday { first time 86 owner } is sitting on a trailer just like this one,....!! There was only about 8,849 of these models ever made, and is number 5 on the rare tractor chart.

The IH Cub Cadets are a great garden tractor, and fun to have and even work on and paint! I would go get this 86 if the price was right!

Good luck!

Welcome to the forum!

I am 27 miles due east of you as I type.

I have some narrow frame stuff including a 42" deck.

I am not sure it is a bolt on fit for your 86 or not.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
