Hi all, first I want to say hello from western Mass! I am new to the forum and new to riding lawnmowers so I'd like to apologize in advance if any questions that I ask seem common sense. I just bought a brand new LGT1054 cub cadet and man was I impressed. Looks great and cuts even greater! My only issue ( if this is even an issue) is that the turning radius seems to be a little out of wack. I can turn left like better but when I turn right, it feels like I get a larger turning radius and the wheel appears to "drag" along. Kind of like it hops. Is this normal? I don't mind making left handed turns but that might get boring.... thanks all!

Take it back to the dealer, it should turn the same left or right.

Dang...I was hoping that wasn't going to be the reply... Seeing as how I got it delivered from Home Depot, are they the ones that should be responsible. Also, is this something they would come schedule for a pickup or should I contact Cub Cadet directly?

Didn't know it was a Home Depot deal. Not sure how that works but I think they call the local Cub dealer to fix it. Guess you need to check with Home Depot and see what they say. Sorry.

Maybe this will help, it's what the steering looks like on your mower.

This may or may not be related. I have a new LGTX 1050 that has electronic power steering. It seems to me that the geometry in the steering is off. It has a pretty small turning radius, but when turning sharply left or right, the outside wheel is turned much sharper than the inside wheel, causing it (outside wheel) to plow up the grass and it usually jumps as you make the turn. I think it would solve the problem if the inside wheel could be made to turn more sharply so as to match the outside wheel. Or veesy visey. Overall, it does turn left much better than it turns right. I have not checked with the dealer yet, so it's possible there is a fix out there somewhere. All I have come up with so far is to limit the turn of the wheels some way, as there seems to be a definite point beyond which the problem occurs.

Check the alignment. More specifically, the toe.

That was my first choice. The toe in is just about 1/4" difference front to back. The difference when turned to full lock is much more obvious than that. Actually, in thinking it over, the inside wheel should be turned sharper than the outside wheel, right? It is turned far less than the outside wheel.

The inside wheel should make a smaller circle yes. (Tighter circle).
You say there is a 1/4" difference, but you didn't say toe-in. It is narrower in the front right? The drag links on those may be on the wrong side. I don't know how much assembly is required on those mowers. When I worked for IH, all the cadets came pretty much assembled. I think all we had to do was add engine oil and gas, then "set it up". |

Hmmmm. I replied to this yesterday, but I don't see it here. Yes, that is 1/4" toe in---front is narrower than back. I think I'm going to try setting the toe OUT by about 1/4" or so and see what that does. Probably nothing, but if it helps a little, it's that much.
Thanks for your help. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
