New Member in Florida (from SC)
I just stared with Cub Cadets because I am clearing some land I just purchased and found that my 24hp Troy Bilt is junk for pulling. I got a 1978 1250 from my father-n-law in Saluda. It is complete but disassembled with no rust, no engine, no mower deck, and no bolts to put it back together. He was the original owner and its been sitting in his barn for years. When I got it back down to Florida I started looking over Craigslist for a motor. I found (and picked up) a fully functional 1650 with 3 38" mower decks. It's foot-rests have rusted out and someone modified the transmission control so that now it is on a two-way foot-pedal for forward and reverse. The steering is sloppy on both machines, so I guess I have to rebuild them. I just bought paint and a sand-blaster, so I am ready to start working. My big question so far is: How fast should a 1650 go? I pushed the hydro pedal to the floor and the thing scared me. The wind was in my hair (what little there is of it) and I was going way too fast to turn without tilting over. Is this normal? Is this adjustable?
