Default Asking about 1912 value for a friend, pics included

Got a friend who found the elusive 1912 and he's wondering about value. The guy selling it has it priced at $1000, but will officially come down to $850. Here's what we know about the machine:
  • Missing side panels, grill, and headlight housing
  • Has dual hydraulics (standard, but still a plus)
  • Has unknown hours
  • Runs, drives, and mows
  • Has the 60" Haban deck

So, based on this info and the two (crappy) pics below, what do you value this machine at? I personally told him I wouldn't go any higher than $750 unless he really wants it. I know being a 1912 it is rare (basically a CCC 982), but that doesn't change the facts of what it's missing and what it does/doesn't have. What do you guys think?

It's a super.
It's cool.
Only missing maybe $150 of parts.
How bad does he want it?

I think you gave him sound advice on the price, but if I really wanted something, $100 wouldn't make or break the deal.

I agree with Brent. Personally if I was getting a Super w/o power steering it would halve to be RED! I think the 2072 with the Onan is rarer. Mine didn't have a Haban but had a lot less hours (it ran but the Mag was still a bit sick) and I gave less than your bottom line. If the deck is in really good shape it may be worth it.

I was BSin with the parts man at the local dealer last week and he told me that I don't want a Haban because everything is BIG $$ for it. Take that for what it's worth. I still kinda want one, just can't find a decent one for the $!

In my book any tractor with an Onan with points is one Id want, if you want, you or he can turn it into a 982. 850 sounds like a good price to me as long as its mechanically sound

That's about priced right. With the Haban, all the Onan parts and the super rear, you should be able to get $850 out of the parts if you had to part it. As you know, have him check the rear bolts and the Onan over real good. He's gonna have to put another couple hundred in it to make it right.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
