Default My first real hydro tractor, My first post

I ran across this 1862 on CL, it was also on the Farm Equipment company's Webb site. "The tractor was a trade in, the owner passed away , It had been parked in a barn for years, They couldn't get it started" As is Where is $500.00. So I bought It. Hauled it home put a good battery in it (expecting to find it sized or knocking) it cranked and had good compression, but would not start. Took plugs out had spark, no gas to the carb, Somebody replaced the starter solenoid and fuel pump and crossed the lines, the out was connected to the crank case and the pulse was connected to the carb I changed the oil and filter (oil was like water) is started right up, all things seem to work (50" deck and mule not back on, They took off to move with fork lift)
It runs drives fine, its quiet. The transmission is low on fluid... What kind can I add for now. Until I can change it. The local TSC has "Cub Cadet® Drive System Fluid Plus" $14.99 QT Suggestions, Thanks

First, welcome to OCC...

Congratulations on your purchase.

The correct and recommended Hydro Fluid is HyTran. It is available from your Cub Cadet or Case/IH Dealer(s).

See Hydraulic Fluids........ Hydraulic Fluid

It is most economical if purchased by the Gallon at your local Case/IH dealer. The rear end takes 7 Qts.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
