I picked up an 1864 the other day that had a strange (to me) hood on it.
There was no Cub Cadet script on either side of the hood and no holes had ever been drilled to accommodate the scripts. Is this a service hood maybe? |

You're not going to get much info unless you post a pic
![]() Edit: Is it plastic? Metal? Shaped the same as standard cyclops hood?

I don't have a camera here. This shouldn't be too hard to imagine. Just no script. Never seen one like that before. |

So the circles would be where the red is in this pic? The way I'm imagining this is the 3 holes where the Cub Cadet script would be on the side of the hood aren't there, it's just solid all the way around.
If that's the case, that's normal. My 1864 hood has the holes since it has the script, but my 2284 doesn't have these holes as it has a decal on it. Hope this helps? ![]()

My 1641 hood is the same way as yours Mike. The script that was on mine was stuck on with double sided tape. Probably one of those Cub design changes. More than likely it was easier to produce a hood without mounting holes and an emblem without mounting pegs on them.

Late production, they went to a stick on POS that looks like crap and falls off.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
