This is the 50C deck I got with my new 1572 I got the other week. I wasn't planning on having to do anything with this deck besides put on a new set of blades. At first glance it didn't look that bad and the bearings were tight and ran quiet. It did make me wonder why the PO would want to give it a quick paint job with black. I can only assume it was just something he had so he used it.
I guess the PO thought JB Weld was acceptable to use to fix rust holes in the deck or maybe I'm just to picky. There is a few spots like this but I'm just working on this one for now. ![]() Here is another problem. Something tells me this is not a factory installed brace. ![]() I'm also going try to fix this before I cut it out and replace it. ![]() Here is the first hole I fixed after I got all the JB weld removed. ![]() ![]() ![]() Here it is all welded and ground smooth. I don't think you will even see it once I get it primed and painted.

I started to work on a few other spots. Once I unbolted the brace next to the rear wheel there wasn't much at all holding it on. It still needs more work, but I'm gaining on it.
![]() I also started to straighten this part. I got it close. I think now I will clean it up and just start to tack it and staighten it as I go. You can also see another hole I found on the front of the deck that will need to be fixed.

I got this piece as straight as I could. Now I have 1 more hole to patch and the deck should be ready for paint.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
