I have an older Cadet 2135. I am having problems with the PTO switch, I think. I was mowing just fine when the PTO just disengaged, even when the switch was still on (it's an electric switch). I put it up on a jack to look under it and all of the belts were fine. I started it up again and the PTO engaged. I got about one loop around the yard and it disengaged again. I couldn't get it to engage so I went ahead and ordered a switch. I went out a little while ago and tried it again. It didn't work. I opened the hood and moved some wires on the back of the switch. I started the engine but now when I engage the switch the engine dies. What did I do?????
HELP!!! I have about 6-8" grass now and I need it bad!!! |

![]() The 2135 has three (3) different Wiring Diagrams. depending on age and Serial Number. What is your Chassis Serial Number...??

The seat switch is most likely the issue. Start there. I had a very similar issue with my pto. I could make one pass and the pto would disengage in almost the same spot. It was on a bit of a slope, and that was enough to take the weight off the seat. Check all connections.

Well after painstakingly going through the very confusing CC wiring diagram for this model, and deciphering the relay and switching components, here is the PTO Circuit for the 2135. As you should know, you have to be sitting in the Seat and have the Brake Pedal depressed.
As already mentioned, I would check the Seat Switch first, then then Brake Pedal Switch. ![]()

I had a similar issue on mine, was mowing one day and the pto kicked off. Flicked the switch and it came back on but cut off again. What I found was an improperly installed fuse. Instead of being plugged into the connector one side was behind it, the blades on the fuse were a little bent. I took it out and straightened the blades up a bit, plugged it back in making sure it was inserted correctly and haven't had an issue since. I bought mine used (lt 2180) and have no idea how long it was like that.

OK, I'm a lousy electrician. When I sit on it and start it and try to engage the PTO nothing happens. When I start it with the parking brake on and engage the PTO the engine dies, even if I'm putting pressure on the seat. Does this mean the seat switch is good? Pardon my ignorance-I can do mechanics but not electronics....
