I had thought I had signed up on this site a long time ago, but I guess I'm just a newbie. I grew up with an original in NY, and had a 129 for a while. The 1440 we got new when the 129 was giving too much trouble, and the 104 came from NY when my mother didn't need it any more.
1440 is down right now. Had a fuel pump issue, and got a bad one. Chased out the fuel lines and valve, and had to do the fuel pump again. It started pumping, and the the starter quit. This was the night before a hip replacement, so it will be a few weeks before I get back to it. The 104 is actually quite reliable. Carb is bad on it. It hates the ethanol fuel. Burns a little oil. However, it's the one that is running. Mike |

Welcome Mike
![]() What I do with the ethanol fuel is StarTron fuel stabilizer and Marvel Mystery Oil in every gas can. Plus I shut the petcock off and run the fuel level down in the bowl. I do not run it out of fuel. I have been doing this on both my 125's with good results. Jeff |

I think the 1440 has me more bothered right now - I had my wife pick up the starter, and 4 days after surgery, I just can't get out to it to put it in. I just have to wait it out. Not sure how to do it yet - I can't see the bolts. Book rate is 0.6 hours, so I'm pretty sure I don't have to pull the engine out.
The carb issue on the 104 is a worn butterfly shaft. I run this every week, so the fuel doesn't go bad. At the end of the season, I'll switch to the canned fuel on the last mowing, and store it with that. Not sure I want to put $350 into another carburetor, but that's about the only thing wrong with the 104, and it would be nice to straighten out the idle speed thing. Two tractors seems odd, but we set them up at the same cutting height, and my wife and i can get the entire lawn done in about an hour if we start at the same time. We can even mow "tandem" on the same piece of grass. Kind of fun. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
