On my newly acquired 127 it steers way sharper to the right compared to left. Can this be fixed my adjusting the draglink length? IF so should I make it longer or shorter? Also I saw a video on you tube where a fellar drilled another hole on the steering arm to make it steer sharper. Does this work? If so what size drill bit is needed? Thanks for any help

Turn the steering wheel all the way to (R or L). Now go the opposite way and count the number of turns. Now go back 1/2 of that number (usually 1-1/2). Disconnect the drag link. Set the front wheels to straight. Adjust the drag link as to hook back up to the steering pitman. Whala, you are done.

I have a new to me 1450 that does the exact opposite. Super sharp to the left, but twice the circle diameter going right. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread...maybe some solutions would work on mine too.
edit: well shoot Roland. You must've been typing at the same time I was. Hit submit and your answer was already there. I'm going to try that too.... |

Yes it can be adjusted.
Yes, you need to adjust the length of the drag link from the steering box to the spindle. Look at it.... should be pretty easy to figure out if it needs to be longer of shorter.

Yep just see how the rod affects the turn and adjust from there. give the ball joint a turn or 2 and the check. 2 or maybe 3 adjustments and you're done.
I like a slightly tighter left hand turn since that's the trim side of mower decks.

Thanks guys in my head tonight I thought the draglink would need to be shorter. I took it apart and the draglink was already as short as possible so I put it back together. Maybe I should try making it longer?

if both ball joints are tightened all the way then something is wrong.
Make it longer. what's the worst that could happen?

I'm thinking yours would need to be longer too Phil. Mine must be too long. It pushes so far going left that the tire will actually contact the drag link. I must have to shorten mine. Think i'm going to use Roland's technique above. Looks like the right way....

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
