CC 100 leaking rear end

Hello everyone. My new to me cub 100 has been leaking oil out of one side of the rear end onto the rim and tire. I figure it is most likely the oil seal that needs to be replaced. However, while I have the rear end open, what else should I be checking out? Do I need to take off the axle carrier? The tractor came with an extra set of carriers and axles, but I don't know if they are good or not. What gaskets am I going to need? Thanks all, I just want to know what I am going to be getting into ahead of time.

theres a bushing out by the seal that the axle rides on, if its bad the axle will just chew up the new seal. i recommend replacing it regardless of how it looks and if it were me id do both sides since you'll already have it apart.

Also, do a visual inspection of the reservoir for any metal shavings and gears for wear. Use gasket sealer on your gasket and you are in good shape.

So, I found out the axle carriers on my 100 have the old brass bushings instead of the needle bearings. The problem is, I can only find one place that has the real bushings (ones with oil drain and divots), and they are $40 a piece. The bushings are pretty worn and do need to be replaced. Is there somewhere else I can check for parts or should I have the carriers machined out to accept the needle bearings? Thanks.

i dont know where you can get the bushings cheaper but im not sure your going to save money having the housings machined.

I agree with Tim, your only gonna need one set of bushings for the tractor, machining and parts will cost more. FWIW, my local IH/cub cadet dealer can get me bushings for an O for $24 each, I can't believe 100 bushings would be that much more.

Have you thought about picking up a set of used bearing style axle tubes?

There has got to be thousands of them out there looking for a new home.

I know a guy who loves doing machining work here in town, and would probably do it for free. I might ask him to see if he could do it. If not, what other models of CC axle carriers will fit the 100? I see a set for a 124 on eBay for cheap. I just cant believe that someone doesn't make those bushings. Thanks.

I got part number 2924t56 bushings for a 122 from McMaster-Carr. Worked perfect.

Go to a bearing house if there is one near. I got the bushings for a dollar each I just had to drill a hole for grease. ( this was in an O)
