Hi Guys,
I've got a Kohler M18 engine which is missing a carburetor. I've spent a while looking for carburetors but i've got myself really confused as to what will fit it. I think some K series carbs will fit, but I'm not sure; I think some 12 hp carbs will fit, but mine's and 18hp so would that carb mean it was down on power? I bought a second hand M18 carb on ebay, but US customs wouldn't let it fly over the pond to the UK - probably because it smelt of gas. They are almost impossible to get hold of over here. Any help gratefully received. thanks Will |

First, welcome to OCC...........
![]() The Kohler engine has a specification (or Spec) number on the engine tag that specifically identifies the options that were installed on that engine. That spec number for the M-18 will be something like this.....24XXX. From there one can tell the exact carb for that engine, as well as other parts that may be unique. What is the Spec Number of that engine...???

OK...good. The engine was made for the Ontario Drive & Gear Company used in a ATV or Argo.
There were two (2) Carbs used on this engine, depending on serial number range. (A) 52-053-09 Carb, Adjustable Jet (B) 52-053-64 Carb, (I assume Non-Adj jet) Carb (A) is discontinued by Kohler and was used on several KT-17 & KT-19, and M-18 & M-20 models. Carb (B) is discontinued by Kohler and was used on several KT-17 & KT-19, and M-18 & M-20 models. The Carb is considered a 1" Kohler Carb. If I was looking for the Carb, I would be looking at Carb (A). Other Carbs that can work are: Walbro Fixed Jet: * 52-053-20 * 52-053-46 Walbro Adj Jet: * 52-053-58 * 52-053-63

I replaced the carb on 682's KT17 II last year. I found a new stens replacement WHG carb intended for single cylinder engines. Carburetor / Kohler 47 853 23-S for $80 on amazon.
The choke shaft is on the wrong side. My notes say that I swapped the old throttle and choke shafts into the new carb. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
