Default My first Cub attachments!

I traded a few parts and $50 for these! I even had them delivered to my front door --by door, I mean garage. I'm really excited to be able to use these. I need to make the extra parts for the blade lift, but it is very solid, only having surface rust and a few dents. It will probably be restored later this summer. I also got a timed deck. Only has 2 rust holes, and is missing the spindle covers. Can someone tell me how to rebuild the middle idler pulley, or where I can get a replacement as well as how it should be set up? This one has just a bunch of crappy, broken bearings and won't even turn when the nut is tight on the assy. Any help is very much appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks! I would really like to find another O, and some other attachments and accessories. Wouldn't mind if I cleaned out that garage and filled it with vintage "O"s...

My center pulley was cobbled together on my O when I got it, someone tapped it and bolted washers to the top and bottom to hold the bearings in. I bought a new to me center pulley assembly on ebay because the c-clip groove was worn away on my original one (hence what the po did). If I remember correctly (its been a few yrs) there is a spacer on the bolt between the 2 bearings and a groove for a c-clip in the pulley at either end to retain the bearings in. This allows you to tighten the bolt and not bind the bearings. Come to think of it there may be a spacer on the bottom to raise the pulley for clearance and alignment. It sounds like you don't have the center spacer which you can make with some careful measuring and a piece of pipe.

Thanks for the info. Ill have to look at it. This one has, I think, 5 sets of bearings in it, 3 of which are broken. Im guessing I need to press them out? Thanks.

If it were mine I'd take the two good sets of bearings and cut a spacer to fill the gap. Mine are not tight enough to need to be pressed, they are snug but not over tight. I don't know which way is right, but snug greased bearings with a spacer has lasted yrs on mine.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
