Options from new were

It's hard to tell from that picture but it looks like the 48"GT deck I had on my 1863. It was a good mower.

I own both and it looks like it has the 54". The plastic tunnel cover means it is mid to late 90's. The bumper helps to protect the plastic. They are good mowers. I like mine.

CubDiesel, I think you are correct if you look how far the caster wheels are from the tractor. I'm thinking 54" also now.

My 1863 came with a 48 GT deck. If you look on Parts Tree or Tractor Data I believe you can see what was offered.

They came with all the decks listed. Depending on serial number.
The 46" GT deck vs others? I had five tractors with the 46" deck. I thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread but I never could keep the thing from wind rowing the cuttings. I got a tractor with the 54" deck and that was it. I changed all the mowers over to the 48/54 deck. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
