Default QA 42 Runners / Shoes

What have you guys with gravel drive ways do to keep your snow thrower from throwing gravel when snow blowing? Today was our first big snow fall and as usual a lot of my drive way is now in the yard. I;m thinking of making the shoes wider and longer.

Throwing gravel or the possibility of throwing gravel is just dangerous. I would recommend that you get an IH blade. I suppose it depends on the kind of gravel you have in your driveway, you might be able to raise the skids up to about 1" on your thrower, but I still think the blade would best address your issue.

I have the lift stops on my blades and snow thrower adjusted so they will only go down to about an inch from the ground. I don't let the shoes/skids touch the ground either.

It's not fool proof but I don't pick up much gravel. Still gotta pay close attention to where your chute is pointing.

I added round shoes it makes a big difference. I found it best to set the height so it leaves about 3 quarter inch or so of snow on top of the gravel also.

I use the snowmobile to pull the driveway drag, (an old twin bed box spring would work great). I have a large parking area, circle drive, plus 1/4 mile to the road. This levels the snow and after a day passes we pack it down more with a vehicle (having kids that want to drive helps). After there is good compaction of the base layer of snow you can really fly with the QA-42A!

On my old QA I welded little 1" angle iron skids to the bottoms of the wear brackets. This helped but the best I've found is the above method.

Sorry guys that might not have made sense.

I do that at the beginning of the winter to set down a base compaction layer. If the first snow is more that 6" of heavy wet stuff I just keep the blower up a few inches and then hop on the snowmobile and drag it all smooth.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
