Nice to see the Cub Cadet mystique is alive and well!
I grew up in Ohio and as a young kid in the early 70s loved visits to my many uncles who all had Cub Cadets outfitted with snowplows and implements. It was the highlight of a visit to have one of my uncles pull out a CC from the garage and hand over the reigns to one of these chariots. I purchased my 1st CC about 8-9 yrs ago (LT1042) without knowing or even questioning the changes occurring with the company since those days long ago. The mystic was all i needed. Unfortunately for me, the newer lower priced model hasn't lived up to what i had expected. I would love to come across an older CC model to relive those fond memories. I will be posting a trouble shooting question regarding the rear wheels being locked, not moving freely in the LT section. Possibly a brake or hydrostatic drive bypass not disengaging. Please check it out if you may provide any insight. Thanks, Joe |

Unfortunately you are experiencing what a lot of people did with that generation CC. I sold them for 2 years during that era and still mow with my 2166 (next series up from the same era.) When I sold them I tried to steer customers who were used to the older MTD/CCC/IH cubs to the 2000 and 3000 series because they were built much more like a classic cub and the 1000 are more like some of the other MTD lines with the belt drive instead of shaft, economy front axle, etc.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
