Default Just bought an 882

Hey everyone I just entered the Cub Cadet world by buying an 882. I didn't even know what I had until after I bought it. I was just looking for a durable replacement tractor for my old snapper. I did a search for a diesel garden tractor and this was what I found. It was one of the only ones less than 2k.
The tractor was inherited from the original owner/father and the guy was moving to Florida so he didn't need it anymore.
The tractor was rough but mechanically sound. When I went to see it the guy could barely get it to start. The radiator had a crack at the upper neck and there was a leak at the thermostat cover. All that helped the price drop and I knew I could fix it. The guy was not mechanical. Bottom line was he dropped his price way below what he was asking... score!!!
The tractor is rough but I'm cleaning it up and everything mechanical is fixed.
Now I'm just cosmetic stuff to fix.

Sorry for the late reply everyone. After I bought the tractor I had lots of trouble with it. Starting and grounding issues mostly. VERY FRUSTRATING! Then issues with the deck spindles and lots of burned up belts. I replaced the starter with a gear reduction unit and then replaced the whole deck. It runs well but now I'm having issues with the PTO. Still have starting issues because I need a bigger better battery. Doing research now and I'll let everyone know what I find that fits.

dsmall I too bought an 882 last year and didn't realize how well I lucked out. Good luck with yours!

FYI I replaced the battery with an Interstate SP40. No problems turning over now.

Scarps68 I noticed your side panels are gone. Did you remove them for overheating reasons or were they missing when you purchased it? Have you updated the starter with a gear reduction unit? That was the first ugrade I did. The steering is stiff so I'm considering a heavy duty tie rod replacemet kit and Super Steer upgrade from Kirk Engines Inc. I still have some stuff to fix. Here is a list of what still needs to be done.

Original fuel filter assembly was missing so I have a new one on order.
One of the engine mounting plates is broken so that is next on the list.
The rubber isolators in the drive shaft are shot so those need to be replaced.
And finally the flange bearing plate is shot so it needs to be replaced.

I really have enjoyed my 882D. I replaced my starter with a high output as recommended by a forum thread I had read. Big difference. Good luck with yours.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
