Default 1650 and 782 - IH or MTD machines??

Showing my lack of knowledge with Cubs again but I looked at a couple more tonight while delivering a JD that I sold, one is a red 782 but its missing the grill and Im told the the pto clutch is not working so I think I'll pass on that but theres a 1650 I think looks promising and I might be able to swing a barter deal on it. Theres a deck and front blade for it, he used the tractor last year but it wont start this spring. I saw both of these tractors a couple years ago but he didnt want to part with either of them then.

The 1650 is most definitely IH. The 782 could be. IH designed and built the 82 series, MTD just took over production. As far as I'm concerned, the 82 series is all IH. To be honest, MTD didn't really change anything until the Cyclops. For all practical purposes, the 1711 and 1811 are a 782.

Thx J-Mech, the owner is coming by again tomorrow and wants to hear my Loboy running so we might have a trade in the works right quick, and he's also interested in an old Sears SS12 I have so I might even get the 782 in the deal

Well that makes it simple...Thx... and Sry, never had much need to question it before.

I made the guy an offer for both tractors and all attachments today but havent heard back yet, it involves giving him my Loboy but I only have about $300 into it, no attachments and it needs a rear pressure plate for the clutch, and he wants an old Sears SS12 that cost me nothing. I could sweeten the deal for him a little if I have to

Would the tiller and gearbox from the 782 fit the 1650?? the 1650 already has a deck and front plow so it would be nice to ad the tiller to that package and then sell it, The 782 would just become another wagon puller for now, it runs but the pto doesnt work, I dont usually bother trying to sell tractors unless they have at least one working attachment. It needs Alot of cleanup but I like the red ones so I wont mind if it hangs out here with the 382

No problems. Just remember, any serial number 700,000 or greater is CCC/MTD built.

That is a qualified YES. If the 782 has a Serial Number of 719,999 or less --- YES. At 720,000 CCC went to the Aluminum Rear End.

I havent checked the # on the 782 yet but I will the next time I see it, thats certainly not a deal breaker but the more options I can put with the 1650 the higher the sale price can start

I made some calls and found an SS16 on trade so if he doesnt accept my first offer Im ready to sweeten the pot for him, he wants to restore his own SS16 so Im sure he will be interested. The one I found Im told is in very good condition cosmetically but missing an engine, to get that I traded a Ford PTO deck that came along with my IHC #9 the other day, those were $125 for the pair so Im not out much cash, I would have paid $100 just for #9 yard ornament.

I expect to here from him today and hopefully be moving tractors tomorrow. He is sort of local being only 15-20 miles away and we have done biz a few times now so I know I will hear from him either way.

I wouldn't pass on that 782 if it's IH built. It's not better than CCC but
worth more to the right person. You know your customer base and situations
better than me but I'm just giving you my two cents. I'm really good at spending
other people's money

Havent heard from him yet but I am going to try get both tractors, I just think it will take quite some time to find parts for the 782 because older Cubs dont come up for sale around here very often, finding a replacement grill might be a problem.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
