Default Wheel shaft

Hi Guys

Does anyone know if I can get a wheel shaft for my lawn tractor. It is a 2007 CC1023RD with a hydrostatic gearbox. I have removed the gearbox and removed the shaft. A well known online spares supplier wants £567 for a new gearbox, and didn't offer me the shaft on its own as an option.

The shaft has snapped clean in two due to a manufacturing fault. I can clearly see a carbon inclusion in the side of the shaft at the point of fracture.

The shaft is 553mm in length, and 19mm in diameter. It has a spline at one end and the wheel mounting flats at the other.

Here is a picture.

If it isn't possible to buy the shaft it might be just about possible to sleeve it and weld the sleeve in place, but as you can see there isn't much room on the inside for the sleeve before the first bearing.

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Regards

Sutty
EDIT: Actually it's difficult to make out where the first bearing is, now that the resolution has been lowered for the site, but for information it is about one inch to the right of that break.

I checked the Cub parts site along with Parts tree and that model must be a Europe only tractor. Any chance you can dig up some numbers and manufacture off the transmission? Tractor looks a lot like the LT series that we have on this side of the pond.

Thanks. I'll see what I can see on the gearbox, plus I will take a photo. Give me a moment.

Here are some shots, including a part number, and hopefully usefully that it is made in the USA.

Transmission is a Hydro Gear 618-0389A Looks like you need number 36 part # 51105

http://outdoordistributors.com/pdf/H..._618-0389A.pdf

Looks like they sell the part for $73.99 US
http://search.cartserver.com/search/...51105&go=GO%21

You can Google "Hydro Gear 51105" and see if you can find it on your side of the pond.

No doubt about it. That's the part. The dimensions check out perfectly.

Fantastic, simply fantastic. I'll call the supplier tomorrow and give him the part number.

Once again you've helped me out. Really very much appreciated Sam.

Cheers

I'll be glad to. Knowing me I'll probably have more questions, lol. Sadly they are roughly $80 in the US, and the first place I got a price on for it in the UK, £200. Too late to call up the local guy though, and he did me a much better price on the last shaft I needed, if you recall that issue. The odd long shaft on the 48" mower deck.

I'll let you know what I find out tomorrow. Probably shoot off an e-mail to him tonight, and see what he can find out for me with regard to availability over here.

I don't know how exchange rate works, but could you not just log into a site and buy it here and have it shipped? Maybe shipping would be a killer, IDK.

I just shipped two small parts to the UK last Friday, what would have cost a few dollars (actual size and weight, not a flat rate box) to send anywhere in the US, cost $27.45 to send it there. I know with the size and weight difference this is an apples and oranges comparison... but it's all I have to compare it with.

In all fairness I sent it "registered mail" that was the only way to get insurance. The insurance was for $125.00

I'm not sure but they may have to pay a duty on it when it gets there too.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
