So I have a early 50c deck with 2 bad waterpump bearing s.
I can try and clean up rusty housings and buy new bearing so or try and find a few of the later style brg assy. Any consensus on which is better. Don't have $400 for new cub parts.. kinda on a budget. |

If money is your main concern, then replacing the ST-745 bearing is the way to go. You can find them on the Web for about $70.00 each. There is a conversion kit 759-3479P which converts to the more traditional type bearings but the Kit is $200+.

The tapered roller style is better.... or cheaper to rebuild. It does seem that the one piece bearings lasted a while though. I prefer the tapered style.

Do you think going with the used "759-3479P" would be better than new ones now that they are China made?
It seems like on both decks I have, the center bearing is the worst. Maybe ppl grease it less due to access or it sees a higher much higher load from the drive belt. Michael |

The mower decks available for that model were: 38C, 44C, or 50C.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
