Smile 2185

I am thinking of buying a 2185. The only thing holding me back, is the number of hrs 1090. I have worked on several IHC 100 series tractors and have no knowledge/experience on this model. I would appreciate if someone could fill me in on the good and bad about this model. Is this shaft driven, both tranny/deck, or belt driven? Thank you for your time.

Should be a Kohler Command... Great motors if taken care of.... Grass in the cooling fins and flywheel area are engine killers... Shaft drive, manual steering and lift.... Great re-power buys for older Cubs and Deeres..

Default 2185

what he said. one of the best donors around and usually very reasonable. I think they are more of a lawn tractor than the heavier duty garden type.
hope you have good luck- if taken care of it should prove to be good.

Thanks for the relies. Well the guy would not come down on the price 600$. An I be darn if I was going to pay that much for a tractor that old and 1090 hrs. So now I am looking at a 1650.

Well the 1650 did not work out. So I purchased an 1864, with a 54'' deck. The deck is a little noisy, but the seller threw in all the bearing and seals. So I guess in the next few days, I will get the deck off and go to work on the noise problem.

The 2185 (depending on the generation) rolled out of the Factory with a Kohler CH18-62509 or CH18-62588.

1864's are the best of the best. When installing the seals, the one at the bottom of the spindle needs to be upside down.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
