Default 1440, a plow, and a hitch

Hi. This is my first post here. I have reading all the great information on this forum that pertains to my CC. But I cannot seem to find all of it.

I have a 1440 that works well. I am contemplating the idea of getting a moldboard plow for my field in the back. I think the 1440 could handle it since my soil isnt that tough to dig. But I need to figure out how to get it hooked up first of all. I don't know much about hitches. I have heard that they usually hook up using a sleeve hitch. But have also heard that the 1440 only has a 3-point and an adapter kit. Although it seems that the actual official parts are either expensive or rare to find. There must be aftermarket parts to accomplish what I am trying to do which is:

1. Get the plow connected to the 1440.

2. Have the ability to raise and lower the plow.

Is there some type of kit to make use of the manual lever on the mower for raising implements? I have seen that there is a universal electric hitch that costs about $600 which is more than what I paid for the 1440. So thats out of the question. There must be a cheaper way to accomplish this.

There isn't aftermarket, and cat 0 3pt is what was offered on the 1440.

If you can fabricate, you could likely get a sleeve hitch (Cub Cadet 3 point) to work on your tractor. One off of a 682 may bolt right up, but you will need a different lower bracket because of the aluminum rear. You can those from xtreme. Still going to likely spend $300 plus the plow.

Cub offered a Cat 0 3 point that will fit a 1440. 388 3 Point Hitch w/Spring Assist, 190-388-100

I think Xtreme also offers a copy of the factory hitch but I'm not sure if they have a spring assist. You'll probably have to call and ask Aaron.

My 1440 has a spring assist, but I guess you would have to remove it to use the hitch though, not sure.

He does, but you need to specify the tractor when ordering. Have one on my 1864

I checked out the Xtreme website and I must say they have quite the selection of Cub Cadet parts. It looks to me like they would have everything I would need. I tried sending them a message a few days ago but got no response.

I notice that many of their parts state they only work on tractors "without PTO". Of course mine has PTO. So I don't really understand why that would be an issue. I am wondering if I could just get one of their brackets to bolt up on the frame so I can just connect a brinly style sleeve hitch and nix the 3-point set up? But I have yet to figure out how the manual lift spring connects to it all. Seems like the only drawback to CC's is the overwhelming selection of non-interchanging parts and lack of instructions.

the pto they are referring to is a rear pto, not the one on the engine. your tractor doesn't have a rear pto.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
