I read in a CC manual that a snow "thrower" is a single stage and a snow "blower" is a two stage. Is this correct? I'm shopping for one and want to use the correct terminology.
Thanks! Bob |

I've heard that also. Whatever you call it, you probably want a 2 stage blower if snow in Michigan is anything like we get in Minnesota. I had a 14 hp. Case garden tractor with a 36", single stage snow thrower. It never threw the snow very far. If the snow was anything but light, fluffy snow, it would plug up easily. I got a CC 1541 3 years ago, with a model 450, 45" 2 stage blower. It throws the snow well, and has never plugged up, even with really wet, sticky snow.

You are correct... Snowthrower = Single Stage Snowblower = Two Stage

Thanks for tips. I was leaning the 2 stage direction. In southern Michigan, we only get 1-2 big snowfalls a year. Not really enough to justify a blower/thrower I'm thinking. I'll probably end up with a plow instead...I just like the idea of a big ole' blower/thrower up front! lol

I am North of you (Saginaw - Bay City Area) and I use both a plow and a snowthrower. As you know, it all depends on the type of snow and what you want to do with it.

Definitely. And the more attachments, the better...but I have a storage issue and a blower takes a whole bunch of space. Not one to leave stuff outside either. Sounds like I need a pole barn!
BTW, does CC make a snow plow and a dozer blade or are they one in the same?

IH made a front push blade for their Cubs....
![]() It came in either 42" or 54" widths. You just have to make sure on the Sub Frame for your application, if it goes on a NF or WF tractor. The NF versions had two types, Bolt On and the Quick Attach (QA). All WF sub frames were QA,

I watched a guy one time with a single stage blower on gravel....what a mess! Mind you he didn't have any shoes that he could lower to lift the cutter bar off the gravel either. So am I going out on a limb that only a single stage blower should be used on pavement or cement drives? Every two stage blower I have seen had adjusting shoes so it worked fine on gravel drives.
Just throwing that out there. |

The IH built snowthrowers HAD skid shoes on them. If setup correctly, you should have no problem on gravel driveways. Ask me how I know....LOL

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
