Bought a 124
I got this 104 over the weekend.
It's been well cared for and will soon be a runner after I rebuild the carb. The tank that was on it was bad, but it came with a pristine tank that will be going on it. I'm not sure why I bought it, but I really like it and might even keep it.

Congratulations on a nice looking 104! A great cub to have and enjoy. Looks like a tool or weight box up high that will be quite useful this winter.

It appears to be an option. It fits perfectly and looks too good to be homemade, but I guess it could be.
I'm not an expert, so I'll wait for the Cub Cadet police to correct me.

IMO someone made the box on the back. Looks like a solid machine. Weigh the crap outta the box then go pop some wheelies.

I think you're right about it being homemade.
I went out and looked at it again, and although it's well made it's not "factory perfect" as I'd expect something that IH made on the line. It's still a neat little box that even has a removable tailgate for whatever reason.
