Default Early snow removal

Came across this "motion picture"
of snow removal, depiction conditions less than 20 years before I was born.
Those members here experiencing a 'nor'easter can understand.
Enjoy

That was out standing! Love how the wing plows worked. Thanks for posting that one.

That's really neat George! Some of those machines still said "Holt" on them. They were made before the Caterpillar name. Hard to believe that we've come so far in mechanical things in so few years.

I don't know where they are coming from, but more and more of those old "promotional" videos are being uploaded to YouTube. Lots of old IH promo vids on there now. Pretty neat!

Cool video Goerge.
My granddad used to plow the town roads in the late 40's to the mid 50's with a Austin-Western six wheel grader with the V-Plow up front. Grader is long gone, but there's still two V-Plows behind the house in the woods...
Anyone looking to build a snow plow. Price, $0,000

Cool video. Those guys on the wings operating the chain hoists for raising/lowering were undoubtedly some tough sons-of-guns! I like where they "danced" around the light pole like it was nothing. I can't imagine snow so deep you can't really walk in it (not far anyway). Think just 20-30 years prior to that video, no power, no phone and 3 ft of snow so you couldn't really travel by foot or horse.

This is our best setup for snow removal. Last time I used it in snow was back in the early 90's. Around '87 we were clearing the roads in a newly built subdivision with private streets--snow/sleet mix. Had it hooked to a Deere 4430 with a cab. The driver (dad) stayed nice and warm. Yours truly on the other hand was about to freeze to death after 3-4 hours. No, working those handwheels doesn't necessarily keep you warm!

Saw a similar rig like that mounted on a WWI Army truck at an ATHS national show in NY a few years back. Awesome equipment for it's time.

There used to be one of those, minus the tractor, sitting in a field near Leroy, MY years ago that I would see when driving down state rout 56 all the time.

A good place to see that kind of antique equipment (most of it working) would be at the Western Minnesota Steam Threshers Reunion in Rollag, MN every Labor Day weekend. Awesome show on a 250+ acre site. A must see of you are into steam power and antique gas equipment.

This video make you realized how hard it was to deal with snow in those years, from the horses and shovels to the invention of the French Quebecer Athur Sicard (the snow blower), we know how to deal with snow up North.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvZxp_uFKt8

Another great winter invention was Joseph-Armand Bombardier snow mobile, but the invention from a Québecer I'm the most proud of is from Mr Jean-Cantius Garand, for those who don't know who he is let me give you a hint, his invention help greatly the USA to win WWII. His Nephew Jean-Paul Garant have been my father neighbor and mine from 1965 until he die.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
