Default K341 exhaust pipe threads

Gents, just bought a 1650 QL , bought a new muffler exhaust elbow p/n KH -45-054-04 . in original Kohler box. Threads in head are in perfect shape but the new elbow only gets 3/4 turn in, can go a little more but not pushing it.
Threads on new elbow appear straight and not a pipe thread. I have a piece of brass pipe thread that goes all the way in no problems. whats up here ? what should threads be. Do I have a miss boxed item ?

Thanks
Carroll

Part number is correct.

The elbow threads into the block, not the head.

Get a pipe coupling and see if the new elbow will screw into it. I'd just carry it to a hardware store and try it if you don't have one. My assumption is that the new elbow has a burr on the threads.

Already did the hardware store check, anything with a pipe thread will not screw on to the exhaust pipe.
Yes I do have a new locking ring

Will recheck threads, I believe they are 11.5 , already chased with a thread cleaner rake. The elbow and threads are painted black, possible need to check again for cleanliness but only goes on 3/4 of a turn ,to me somethings not right, as a brass fitting with pipe threads easily ( snuggly) goes all the way in.

Thanks for your response guys

Also have a 125 Im restoring too, needed a GT to do the lawn duties as the 125 is all completely torn down for paint removal , will not make it in time for spring...so the 1650 QL came along.

First,welcome to OCC!
Normally a pipe thread is tapered and set to start about 3/4-1 turn by hand, then a pipe wrench turns it home.
Possibly they are thinking that the threads are rusty and a bit oversize thus supplying a bit oversize cut thread.
Has the new elbow been dropped/distorted?
You say it is a genuine kohler part,
so you have some choices:
You can return it as defective,
Or run a bottom pipe tap into the block to insure that it is indeed to size and clean/carbon/rust free to accept the elbow.
If all this checks out, run a pipe die on the elbow if needed to get it to size.
I'm betting the elbow is a bit big,and there is some foreign material in your block thread as is usually the case.
Let us know what you find.
I would run a new pipe nipple from the hwd store into your block as a size check, it you do not run it home with a pipe wrench you can return it.

What blower? Cub didn't make one (2 stage) designed for the QL tractors.... except the 351, and you had to have the ultra rare adapter to use it on a 1650. The 450 model will attach, but the belt size for the PTO won't work.

It is a 450, I would have to check and see if the pulley on the blower was changed. I know the PO had drilled a hole on either side for the pins at the very front of the frame. Other than that its a nice unit for the QL 1650.

I suppose he could also have put a PTO on from a later series machine. Pretty sure they would fit.

Nice for a 1650..... maybe. Bit under-powered. I've had a 450 for years I run on an 1811. I wouldn't want it on any smaller of a motor.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
