Deck started making some noise last weekend while mowing- its been raining since, and the sun came out so tried to get another mow in before I pulled deck for new belts and grease.
Got half done- but did notice some smoke when I backed up, and some smell. I didn't smell like a belt burning but... ...why YES those are ball bearings on top of the deck, and yes my main pto pulley on deck is wobbling! I assume I get to use my snap ring pliers to start, but what am I in for the rest of the way? Thanks Chris |

Take the bolt out in the center, remove the old dead bearings and replace them , no big deal. Just a FYI the bearings fit sloppy in the pulley, ask me how I know.
![]() Bearing number is 741-1122 it calls for 2 of them. Link to the Cub parts site. http://www.cubcadet.com/equipment/AR...A/769048060004

Thank You Sam! The 1st thing I saw down that hole was the snap ring. I'll pull apart tomorrow!

If the bearings are being replaced, make sure to stake the ridge of the pulley just above the bearing to keep it in place after installation. I saw a lot of Cubs come into the shop for belts and bearings that just needed the pulley staked with a cold chisel or punch a few times around the bearing race.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
