The motor in my 682 is blown up. What would be a good replacement? Thought about an old K series kohler...any thoughts?

IF...this were me, I would look at:
* Kohler M-18 (Magnum Series) * Kohler CH-18 (Command Series) If they are Cub Cadet spec'd engines, minimal adaptation to make them fit.

If you have the cash this is the way to go, if you rebuild some other stuff while you're at it then it will be like a new tractor.

I was thinking about going the vanguard route. Just not sure what all I will have to go through when mounting the clutch up and driveshaft.

Those kits are made to drop in, the original driveshaft and clutch will work.

The used M18 would be quick and easy if It's in good shape! Those old opposed twins are hard to beat for low end lugging power and torque
If that doesn't work out the Vangard kits from Small engine warehouse are hard to beat... drop in ready! Like Tim (olds) said.. take care of a few other things while you are in there and you will have a like new tractor! ![]()

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
