Default 50 C deck spindle not taking grease

I greased everything up tonight and the spindle on my 50C deck on the non discharge side is not taking grease. IIRC my dad had this same problem when he had it. The bearing appears to be operating smoothly. Perhaps the zerk is plugged? Is there any way to remove the zerk or to fix this issue, or am I destined to order a new spindle?

They make a tool to clean zerk fittings, you just put it on there and bop it with a mallet a couple times. I got mine at the parts store. The fittings themselves are a snap to change but there are differnt sizes and angles.

Find a treaded zerk and tap the hole in the spindle.....10-24..???? Anyway that's how I fixed mine.

If you can press it in you can pull it out.....threaded.

Looked into the zerk cleaner but they wanted 30 bucks for it. Good idea but I just dont have enough zerks to justify that kind of money... Pulled out the old zerk with a vicegrips and tapped threads and put in a new one. Slick and cheap.
Thanks guys

One thing I have found on zerks, is there are a couple of different styles. There is one type with a ball at the top, and the other type which is cone shaped. I have had better luck with the ball type. The tip on the greasegun works better with those.

I have found that as well. The new ones are ball type. In fact that's all I could find!

Thirty bucks sounds a bit high for the tool but I bought mine around fifteen years ago.
The cone shaped fittings dont take a regular Zerk adapter you have to use a needle. My grease gun has both, if you screw the outer zerk adapter off there is a needle underneath. My small gun for greasing chian saw bars works on them too, if they are not plugged. My "75" F100 has needle fitings in the u joints on ends of the front axles. They work good if there are clearence issues and you use the right adapter.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
