Default 782

Hello All,
I recently picked up this 782 along with another that i haven’t gotten yet. Tractor has original paint and paper work. Original engine was replaced in 1999 with a series 2 at a cost of 1400.00 (paperwork) can anyone tell me what year it is ? I’ll post pictures. Im needing to clear some space so the 169 and 128/129 are for sale.

1983 according to tractor data. I can't speak to the reliability of their info, but it looks like digit 3 in the model number is the year; 3=1983

It's an 83 according to the serial number.

The model number has nothing to do with the year. The serial number is the lower set of numbers behind the U, in his case it's 721083 which was made in 1983 according to the serial number breakdown.

I kind of broke the model number down over the years and looked at all the ones I have.

143782399

The 14 appears on all of our Cubs...I think

The next digit "3" in this case is the year 1983

782 is the model (784 is the dual stick model)

399 is that it left the factory with red paint (like this one)
100 if it was a yellow & white 782/784

Nice looking machine Mike.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
