Default 582 engine blew up now what?

I have a nice cub 582 special with the 16hp briggs on it. While mowing the other day I broke a rod on the origional motor. I like the tractor and have a plow and snowblower for it but hate to spend alot of money repairing it. Anyone have any ideas on a motor that will fit the tractor? I am fairly handy fabricating but obviously need a horizontal motor with the right size pto and drive shaft Thanks for any input Jason

That's your call. I've seen M18s go for $500 running. You could probably find a good 682 for say $600.

I personally wouldn't put any money into anything with that peerless rear in it.

Default blown briggs

I have an 1810 with a seized and rusted kt series 2 engine.
Has anyone done a harbor freight clone swap? The 13h.p. electric start single
is what I am thinking of. I got the 1810 for $125 that included a deck and snow blade. I just want to use it to push snow.

Those engines are horrible. Don't do it. Used Kohler Magnum and Command twin cylinder engines are plentiful and not all that expensive used. By the way, the 1810 has a Magnum 18, not a KT-17.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
