Default My Great Grandfathers Cub

Hello everyone,

My name is Justin. I just purchased my great grandfathers Cub Cadet, he purchased new around 1979. He doesn’t remember the exclaim date or model of the cub. So I’m reaching out to try to see if anybody can help me pin point what I have here exactly. Also where I can maybe obtain a manual. I am currently having an issue with the clutch not engaging and the brakes not working. From what I can see the two may seem to be related. Maybe not. I’m not sure. When you try to put it in gear it grinds, it’ll go but it’s not how it’s supposed to be. Any tips or advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Welcome!

The same pedal works the brakes and the clutch. Look underneath the tractor and see what's going on when you push the clutch in. Naturally, the brakes engage AFTER the clutch releases the driveline.

There's a lot of good info in the manuals section for that nice 106!

You can get it going!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
