I've been reading and reading my Ken Updike book trying to get "smarter" and I read about where IH switched from the manual to electric PTOs on the quietlines.
Is it possible to retrofit an electric PTO to work on a tractor with a manual one? Not that I have any intentions of doing so, but would it be practical or possible if you had one?

With the Quietline, IH started using the K-XXX-AGS motors. There were holes molded, drill and tapped for the Electric PTO. Prior motor models, did not have these mounting provisions. So, in answer to your question....NO.

Gary,
I think your 127 has a newer replacement engine in it doesn't it? If so, I'm guessing the holes Roland is talking about might be drilled and tapped..its worth a look. My 127 has a replacement engine built in 1992 and has the threaded holes. Jeff (teet)

I'll have to check again.... Like I said, I have no intention of ever doing it, but I just wondered if it could be done.
I'll just have to wait till my wife gives her "blessing" for getting a 782/982!

Check the tag on your engine. If it says K301 AQS it will work, otherwise you can't do it.

If you put an electric PTO on the front of an engine with a S/G you would have to remove the original PTO "basket and pulley", then there would be no pulley for the starter to turn the engine and no pulley for the engine to turn the generator.
I'm not exactly sure about the "AQS" thing... A = Special oil pan Q = Quiet model S = Electric start At the time the blocks are cast, machined and drilled, there specific destination probably hadn't yet been determined. If the block was made after the Q/L series blocks were in production, I would bet that they (Kohler) used the same engine blocks for either/or applications. |
