Ever since I bought my IH Cub Cadet 70 there are several things I’ve noticed that are messed up that I’ve been wondering about. They all lead me to believe that the previous owner hit something with the tractor. However, there are no obvious dents that I’ve seen and I don’t have a model 70 or 100 to compare it to. The first thing is the muffler, it’s crushed against the front end section that holds the grill in place. The second thing is the hood, new holes were made in it for the bolts so it wouldn’t be stopped by the steering wheel; if the hood and it’s bolts were in the correct spot the steering wheel would prevent the hood from opening. I’ve included pictures below. Thanks for your time, any input is appreciated.

Remove the hood and pull the grill.
Check for bent ears on the bottom of the frame rails. Holes that secure the grill to the frame may be wallered out and distorted. Not uncommon on this model of Cub. |

Thanks for the reply. Is there a way to fix it or do most people leave it as is?

You might be able to loosen the grill shell bolts and slide it forward enough to give space to the muffler.
maybe you got the wrong hood? |

That is a good idea Ironman. I will try that later on. It may look a little distorted after doing that but I'll just have to wait and see. The hood is about 28 3/8” long.

Remove the grill housing and you will see the frame will be bent, flatten it out then add 1 washer under the grill frame on the back two bolts.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
