Default Running Rich

Been having fits with my model 70 engine. Rebuilt the carb and have checked the float level three times before I put it back together. Still runs a bit rich and if I shut it off for a few minutes and try to restart, it won't catch until it turns over for about 30 or more seconds and then I get the black puff of smoke before it takes off.

Also, it dies if I have the throttle lower than halfway to "slow" on the dash. It's a K181 with the proper carb.

Did you clean the carb? or rebuild it? If you adjust the carb does it help? get worse?

It was completely rebuilt and adjusted couple years ago. Think I'll give it another adjustment and see if I can get it running right. It keeps fighting me and I'm not sure why. The throttle lever is not loose. The float level was checked prior to reassembly.

Couple year's?? A carb can be hindered to the point you are speaking of in a matter of months with todays fuel.

Didn't know that. I thought my carb maintenance skills were horrible. Now I can blame it on crappy fuel.
