1541 Governor problems
I'm thinking that my governor is not working properly in my 1541. I picked this tractor up about 1 1/2 years ago and it did not run. I replaced the ignition in it and it ran. The throttle never worked like it should. I adjusted the carb and the springs and it worked good enough to mow with. Yesterday I was going to reset the governor but the throttle seemed to work normal and I chose not to adjust it. I started mowing at what I would think was at or close to 3600 RPM and for about 15 minutes everything was fine. Then all of a sudden it revved up and sounded like it was going to blow. I throttled it down all the way and it was just above idle then moved the throttle to about 1/3 above idle and sounded like it was going to blow. I finished mowing with a hand on the throttle and let it cool down. I started the tractor a few hours later and it was doing the same. I pushed on the lever that is on the cross shaft and heard something grind and sounded like something broke. ( I guess you shouldn't do that) I shut it off and looked for anything that didn't look normal. I restarted and drove out to the barn.
I have a PDF of the Kohler manual but it's not very clear and I will order a hard copy. How hard is it to replace parts for the governor?
