Old Cubs are just slightly more rare than Sasquatches within several hundred miles of me. This one came up only a ten hour drive away! It's been painted obviously and the guy knows nothing about it, but I know several Cub Connoisseurs on here that will ID it on sight.
I'm also wondering if the hydrostat is the same as my 149. Perhaps the rear end too? Thanks. Rod. |

The front end and the dash look like my 125, but the 10 horse engine suggests something else.
So, to my non-expert eye, it appears to be a 105. |

If it's supposed to have a 10 horse, then it's a model 105. Your 149 most likely has a ported hydro pump, and the 105 does not. The rest of the rear axle is almost the same, with the exception of the brakes. The 105 has an internal brake, while the 149 has external disc brakes.
All in all, the paint is rough but it looks like a really solid machine with little rust. Might be worth it if the engine is good.

The engine has been replaced. The original would still have the riveted metal ID tag. Could have started out as a 105 or a 125.

The only way to tell is the size of the gas tank..

If it wasn’t changed with the engine...
Unlikely, but maybe they painted over the original decals and you can get enough paint off to read the numbers.

Thanks for the info guys! I know close enough now to know that there's not much crossover to my 149.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
