2146 Backfires when shutting off
My 2146 backfires thru the exhaust when it's shut off after mowing the lawn.
Any cure for it? it's been doing it since my dad left it to me.

Are you letting engine idle down a minute or two before shutting off. That usually helps. Also, You could be running too hot or lean.

I've got 2 Kohler Command Pro's that are frequent backfire offenders. I just blip the throttle up a bit as I shut off the IGN. Works every time.

was only idling it down for about 20 seconds. Yesterday i let it idle for about 2 minutes then drove it at idle back into the shed and it did not backfire. Come to think of it Dad complained of it doing this to the cub cadet dealer when it was under warranty and they did not give him an explanation, heck they picked up the tractor once and brought it back with zipties holding the deck up on one side. I buy my parts online now, not giving then any money.

If your exhaust system has any leaks, that can introduce air into the system when shutting down, that provides the necessary air to allow combustion in the muffler from any un burned fuel after the ignition is extinguished.
 Seen it many times, but if no leaks then just let the temps normalize for a minute or so after usage as suggested.Many user manuals of equipment recommend letting it cool/normalize a few minutes.

What's all the fuss?
Make sure you cut your grass late after dark, (like 11 p.m.) then pull over next to obnoxious neighbor's property when you shut it down. Satisfaction gained....... beyond belief!
