Default 125 rear cover torque specs
Ok, I got the new gasket yesterday and fluid, and I was going to intall this afternoon, but for the life of me I can't find the torque specs in any of my manuals. I've looked back in the arcives, nothing!
Would someone know off hand what the torque specs would be for the rear cover bolts?

It's not easy to find in the service manuals, but In the 72-82 series service manual it states to "torque to 360 in/lb"... I would think that this holds true to most all cast rearends. Its more critical with the aluminum rears as the covers are sheet metal and warp a lot easier around the holes.


Not really sure if thats a clear answer.....I remember someone posting on the old forum about this, and 35ft/lb is stuck in my head for some reason.

I don't use a torque wrench on mine anymore...Ive had my rear covers off so many times, I sort of have a "feel" now for where they need to be...and I do know that you don't need to reef them down tight to make a good-even seal.

I think it's 30-35 ft-lbs, and the second page or so in the manual is a table of torque specs given the bolt diameter, grade, and material that the bolt is threaded into.

Right again Matt, it's on the second page! Huh! I did find what I was looking for back in the arcives though, so I got it sealed up, no leaks
