Hi, we are having a weird issue on a used lt1050. Initially it was a no start issue which was fixed with a new carb and plugs, fuel lines, filter.
Now it runs great except when you start, start cutting, then turn off pto and keep driving. The mower then rpm hunts up and down until pto is engaged again. The reverse mode button does not work either. Seems like a safety circuit issue but seems like it should be cutting off (?) rather than just rpm hunting? I did read through this great manual for ltx which seems similar and it seems like maybe its trying to ground out but maybe only killing one cylinder bank or something weird like that (?). Assume your engine is a CV-730.
For the surge problem, I would suspect a governor sensitivity issue. |

Sounds right, I forget the exact engine code. Its the 25hp.
So does the governor kick in or out based on the PTO running? Just confused why it only does this after the pto is turned on then off. It doesn't do it under load going up a large hill and then on flat (lower load) then downhill with the pto off. Have not messed with the governors before. Thanks.

The purpose of a governor is to keep engine RPM constant regardless of load.
It is internal to the engine and is always working as long as the engine is running. If load increases and engine RPM starts to drop, the governor opens the carburetor to give the engine more gas. And vice versa if load decreases, it closes the carb to prevent engine over rev. In your case, when you shut off the PTO, the mower load is removed and the governor starts searching for the same engine speed with less throttle but can't get happy. That is called surging, and correct governor sensitivity eliminates surging. Little springs on your governor to throttle connection control that sensitivity. All that being said is with assumption that all other things are correct such as carb settings, ignition, etc. |

Just to clarify, are you talking about the tiny little spring that is on the throttle rod? thanks
