Damper cylinder
The left control lever went erratic on my Ultima ZTX5 while mowing last weekend. I was able to see that the lower eye of the damper cylinder was physically broken.
Has anyone replaced one of these? It's not clear what the best path is to access the part for replacement. Maybe removing the (60" Fab) deck would provide access from underneath, but would require a second person to insert the top fastener from above. If not that, then maybe the gas tank has to be removed to gain access from rear? Does the whole lever assembly come out somehow? Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks Keith

This was not as bad as I was thinking. With the deck as low as it will go, you can access the bottom of the damper cylinder to pop the clip off. There's an access hole for the T-40 torx fastener holding the top of the cylinder, that you can get to by raising the seat forward. I had taken the top plate off to investigate what broke, but the cylinder could likely be replaced without removing it. Install the cylinder from underneath, slide it on the lower mount point, use a screwdriver through the access hole to get the top of the cylinder lined up right, reinstall the T-40 fastener. It took some fumbling to get the clip reinstalled on the bottom, just due to the angle and it being a little difficult to access. You cant see what you're doing.
