How well will a disc like pictured do in untilled and unplowed soil? I can't find the answer for this anywhere. Thanks. http://www.northerntool.com/shop/too...9214_200379214

That disc is used after you plow to help break the soil down. Best thing to do is plow first them disc or tilled soil.

Thanks. How cheap do you think I will be able to find a used plow then? I do not want to spend much money. Thanks again!

cubcadet109: I paid $75 for my plow. Place a wanted ad, and you'll probably find one for a good deal.

Just looked at the picture of the disc. That is the exact same one I have. I have to put two full sized concrete blocks on it for it to even start cutting after I have plowed up the garden spot. I just started using my neighbors old rear tine tiller, it worked 3 times better and didn't take near as long to get the dirt into plant-able soil. A person almost needs another disc attached to the back of the first to maybe do any good. Now also you have to take into consideration your type of soil and if it is hard pack or very easy to work with. That also determines how well some of the implements will work. It is very hard and lots of clay here in Central Ky.

disks are sometimes good and bad. they work the best when your soil is plowed and or tilled. one thing about a disk though, is when the outside disk goes through the soil, it tends to "berm" it up. i would much prefer to run my moldboard plow through the soil, then hit it with the cultivators after giving the soil a few days to dry out. if you dont have that kind of time, moldboard plow it, then hit it with a Tiller. it will be powder.

the second disk don't do anymore than the first. a set of disc are cool to see on a cub but if your putting a garden out you'll get better use of your money with a tiller!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
