You have the first Hydro unit model Cub Cadet produced. They are like all the others, tuff and ready to work. You probably need to change the hydro fluid and filter. If the unit is jerky with the lever to move forward or reverse you may also have to do some linkage adjustments and or fix the trunion spring and bracket. There are several posts here about all those issues. Congrats on the 123. That is a model I definitely want to find for myself eventually. Oh and welcome aboard, there are many people here with a ton of knowledge and information on these great machines.

Cmatthew,
First of all, a great, informative & helpful site.Secondly, because most of us are old and can't remember what things look like (crs). But, mostly, this is a great place to hang out!! I don't have much know-how 'bout the 123 but someone much smarter than me will be along shortly to help you. Again, welcome. FFGino, Happy Cubbing!! |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
