Default Can anyone tell me what this is???

Im not sure where to actually post this so Ill just post it here and hopefully any of the moderators can help me move it to its right spot.

I got this mower with my 129 when I bought it. the po claims its a cub and said I had to take it with the other or it was no deal. so I have it. I cant find any numbers on it at all. its missing the hood. it is a hydrostat drive. it has a vertical shaft motor. and believe it or not it actually runs. my only intent is to scrap it unless its actually a cub. I know a lot of you guys really know your cubs and hope someone can tell me what it is, or isnt. thanks.

It looks to be a 76 Cadet lawn tractor.

Sorry not a cub. but it is a "Cadet". It's one of the IH Lawn Tractor models.

TheTucks: The IH Model 76 Cadet Lawn Tractor is a gear drive. Around 1974 IH added the the Cadet Hydrostatic Model 80 to the line-up. Given that you said that it has a hydrostatic transmission, then what you have is a Cadet Model 80 missing the fiberglass hood/nose piece. Occasionally you can find one available...

The serial # plate should of been on the frame under the seat between the 2 seat brackets towards the back of the tractor.

I agree with what has been previously posted that your machine appears to be a model 80 hydro. I also have one and really enjoy using it to mow with as it does just as good of a job as my SRC621 walk-behind. It has a nice small deck and easy to manuever with. From the pictures you posted, it appears maybe the tag is gone from between the seat rails unless it is painted over.

I just purchased a new seat for mine from Northern Tool and it bolted right up. I looked at price and wanted to keep the closest appearance to original. The one I bought is made by Michigan seat model V-250.

Your hood may be a fun one to try to find but I am sure someone has them. Good luck with your machine and certainly worth keeping around.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
