Default 1440 Cub won't move

Hello everyone! My name is Matt. First time poster on here, lol! So it's time to get the Cub out this time of year in Texas and mow the grass. I was going to take it to the car wash to clean it up, grease, change fluids, filter and whatever else I could think of. I gave the battery a quick charge and it fired right off! I pushed the lever forward to move it out of the barn, and there was nothing... Usually there is resistance in the lever, but it moves quite freely now. I had used it a few times during the winter and noticed the tractor didn't move right away, but would begin to move after I worked the lever back and fourth once or twice. Seemed like it had air in the system by the way it behaved. After that it operated perfectly. Could the hydraulic system have lost it's prime completely? Or worse, is there and common internal problem? I checked the fluid and it is full. Also I looked around on the site, but wasn't able to find much relating to my problem. Hoping to get some insight from the CC community

Does your tractor have a driveshaft?
Yes it does. No power steering or Hydraulic lift though.

It's similar to all the other 'cyclops' models, except it has a Hydro-Gear pump instead of a Sundstrand like most of the rest of them.

Did part of the linkage fall off? When is the last time the fluid and filter has been changed? A clogged filter will do what you are describing. Changing the filter might be a good place to start.

I changed the filter when I got it, which was last September. It was damaged from being moved with a fork lift. I saved it from certain death at the scrap yard. Picked it up for $125 I'll admit that I put regular hydro fluid in it first before I new better. I drained it and replaced the filter soon after putting it in. Worked fine after that until now.

Also check the single dump valve...if the tractor was moved manually by pushing it,valve can stick. Will it go in reverse and move?

No, there is no reverse either. All the linkage seems to be hooked up as well. At least as best I can see from under the tractor. Do you mean the relief valve for pushing it? I looked at it and the button moves in and out. Not sure if that's a conformation or not though lol! After doing some reading last night, I wondered about that myself. I'm not completely familiar with how that valve works or if it can work one day and not the next. Seems like a likely candidate though. Are there any critical seals that could have been ruined by the hydro fluid I had in there? Or perhaps gone bad over time? I know car transmissions but nothing about this. Thanks everyone for the help so far!

Default Update!

So I called the dealer today about the tractor. They had a few ideas for me. Most were already listed here. One theory was that there maybe air in the system. The service manager had a couple ideas, one of which was to rotate the wheels. So I pushed it forward in the barn about 6 feet and I noticed oil on the floor. Then I saw there was oil that was running out from behind the right wheel weight and down the tire. Also I could see that the inside of the wheel was completely covered from probably years of leaking. I rechecked the fluid level just to be positive and it was fine. Started it up and there was still nothing. So out of frustration I pushed it back into its spot. I figured I'd try it one more time and holy crap that tractor moves now! I guess rolling it backwards primed something.

Anyway I wanted to share this with everyone in case someone in the future has the same problem. I'm still not sure why this is happening, but at least I know how to make it work. Thanks again for y'alls help with this!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
