Hello, just got the k161 in my 70 started and the great news is there is no smoke and runs strong !!! At low idle seems correct, but when i take it off of low, seems to rev Way too HIGH. What steps should I take to check / correct this? Thanks for your help.

Sounds like a Governor adjustment is needed. Click here for the K series Service Manual for the procedures.... Manual

Jason, here is what is needed to do with the gov.If the shaft keeps turning you have a problem with the gov cross shaft arm,and it is prolly broken off.

Default idle help

Ok, i just checked all the linkage and the gov shaft and all seems well. I even pulled my 73 next to it and everything matches ! Now when i start it, low idle is perfect like i said before. If i push the throttle up very slightly, i can raise the idle up to high speed and its good, but if i go past the very slight mark, it starts to REV !! Does this sound like a govener problem, or maybe a carb problem? I am lost !!!! HELP

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
