Hey all,
Just inherited a IH Cub Cadet 682 from my father-in-law. Also included were the mowing deck (3 blade), IH snow plow blade (with chains), and roto-tiller. Looks decent and runs, but its pushing oil out somewhere on the top of the engine. This site is great. I already pulled a copies of the owners manual and engine manual so I can get it running as best as possible. I guess one of my biggest challenges is going to be finding a good parts supplier. I'm the kind of guy that prefers to buy in person, that way I can compare parts and chat with the seller to get tips and insight. So, if anybody knows of a good parts place near Front Royal, Virginia, please let me know. In case you don't know where Front Royal, its near the north end of the Shenandoah Valley, about 30 miles south of Winchester and about 75 miles west of Wash. DC. |

If you can't find a good parts supplier near you, I can highly recommend any of our sponsors located at the top of the page. They can be emailed or called. What they list on their sites is not everything they have.

whats the oil level in the tractor? some times the fuel pump will stick open fludding the crank case with gas . Then when you start it it will push gas/oil up out the breathers on top of the motor.

Oil level is actually a little on the low side. I checked it before starting it yesterday because it loses oil, I didn't want to harm the engine by running it dry. It doesn't leak as bad on a cold engine, but after a few minutes it really starts to smoke out the front grill, most likely because its getting burned off on the muffler.
Hopefully I'll get a chance to pull the cover plates sometime in the next few weeks so I can get a good look at what's going on. Most likely I'll need to track down a complete gasket set. |

Your serial number says it is a May 1980 model.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
